What to Expect

Process | Fees | Your Experience

The Process

In partnering together, your needs and goals are at the core of every step. Since I am a fee-based fiduciary, I do not answer to a third party or rush the process to receive a commission. I do not work for commission and instead have transparent fees that are tailored to your needs. Every phase of our work together is centered around you and collaborating on what you hope to achieve.

Step 1: Phone Call

We’ll first have a brief phone call to get to know one another and make sure HWM is a good fit to match your situation.

Step 2: Discovery Meeting

This meeting is designed to better understand your circumstances and discuss your goals and concerns. You’ll be able to ask any questions you have about my approach, and I’ll share more about how I can help.  After we meet, I will send you a quote for a project-based engagement that spells out what we will cover.

Step 3: Initial Financial Plan

After exploring your goals and some data gathering, we’ll sit down together to analyze your cash flows, taxes and investments. I’ll offer recommendations regarding areas in which I see blind spots and areas to be improved upon.

Step 4: Ongoing Financial Advice

Long-term relationships enable me to best serve you as things change in your life, and your plan calls for adjustments. If you are happy with the services I’ve provided, I’ll quote you for ongoing services, and we’ll start the paperwork to onboard you as a long-term client.

Straightforward Fees

Initial Financial Plan and Investment Roadmap

(3-6 meetings over 3-6 months)

$3,600 to $4,800 depending on complexity.  Most plans are at the minimum but can cost more if they include:

  • Stock option/Alternative Minimum Tax scenarios
  • More than 5 investment/retirement accounts
  • Tax planning strategies such as Roth conversions, qualified charitable distributions, and tax-loss harvesting

Tax Preparation: $450-$650 for most tax returns, including federal and state e-filing.

Tax Resolution: Get a letter from the IRS or your state tax authority?  Get in touch to discuss.

Options for Financial Advice After Initial Plan

Ongoing Financial Advice with Investment Management

Clients who prefer to delegate investment management and tax preparation, can have existing accounts consolidated at TD Ameritrade or Schwab, when possible. Advisory fees are deducted directly from accounts based on assets under advisement, as follows:

0.8% for first $500,000

0.4% for $500,000 to $3,000,000

0.2% for assets above $3,000,000

Ongoing Financial Advice without Investment Management

Clients who prefer to manage their own investments but still want dedicated financial planning, investment advice, and tax prep year round can either opt for subscription-based quarterly billing, or a refresh of the initial plan as needed, at reduced cost.
